Letters "N" and "O"

Letters "N" and "O"
33 months

We had beautiful weather this week so we spent a lot of time outside.  We were able to do some tot school activities.  I had more planned, but we just didn't get to it.

Noodle Fun
Little Sweets rolled her large die and identified the number.  I made the die from a large Styrofoam square that I picked up at Walmart.  I wrote the numbers on it with permanent marker. After identifying the number Little Sweets put that many penne pasta shells on a piece of spaghetti noodle.  This is a great activity for building fine motor skills because the child has to be extra careful not to break the spaghetti noodle.  You can also do this activity with older children by having them roll the die twice and add up the number of noodles.

N is for Nuts
Little Sweets looked for nuts in our yard.  She put them in a bucket and then counted them when she was done.

"N" is for Numbers
Little Sweets threw a pom pom ball on our calendar and then identified the number it landed on.

More Number Games
I made number cards using stamps.  Then I put a paper clip on the card.  Little Sweets counted the number of stamps and then moved the paper clip to the matching number on the card.  This is a great activity that children can do on their own because you can mark the answer on the back of the card.

Letter "N" and "O" Books
Little Sweets identified the words in the books that started with the Letter "N" and "O".

Picture Cards
I made these cards on my computer using clip art.  I cut them out and laminated them.  Little Sweets uses a clothespin to identify the picture that goes with letter. I got this idea from confessions ofa homeschooler website.

Operation Game
I picked this game up for $2 at Walmart this week.   It is great for building fine motor skills.  Little Sweets had fun using the tweezers to get Buzz's parts.  We didn't follow the instructions because it would have been too hard for Little Sweets.  She had fun playing the game her way.

Opposites
We read a book together about opposites together.

Disney on Ice
We took Little Sweets to Disney on Ice.  She loved the show, especially the princesses.  Here is a picture of Little Sweets and one of her good friends at the show.

Character Traits:  Kindness and Love
We are still talking about what it means to be kind and loving towards others.  I like to use examples in everyday life so that Little Sweets can understand the meaning of the words.  We also read stories in her children's Bible about God's love and kindness.

Little Sweets and Cutie Pie

Tiny Tot
Cutie Pie just turned 3 months. She is gaining a lot of head control and just rolled over from her back to belly this past week.

"Look at me, I can roll over."

Operation Game and Candy Land for $2 Each at Walmart (with coupon)

Toy Story 3 Operation Buzz Lightyear

I picked up the game operation at walmart for $2. This is a great game to use for fine motor skills.  Little Sweets loves the game.  The recommended age is for 6 year olds, but that's if you want to play the game according the instructions.  I let Little Sweets use the tweezers to pull out the pieces and she gets to keep them even if the game buzzes.  I think it is perfect for working on her fine motor skills.  You can also purchase Candy Land for $2.  We already have the game so I didn't pick it up.  It is great for teaching colors and teaching children how to take turns.  Here is a link to the coupons.  Thanks to Money Saving Mom and My Frugal Adventures.

Tot School letter "M"

Tot School- Letter "M"
34 Months

M is for Money

Little Sweets enjoyed sorting the coins in her piggy bank.  After sorting them I helped her identify each one.  We sang a song to help with identification and value.  The song can be found here.  I also let Little Sweets helps me identify coins when we go to the store.

Little Sweets loved putting the coins back in her piggy bank.

Patterning with Coins
I made patterns with the coins and Little Sweets told me the pattern and used coins to extend the patterns.

Alphabet Mats
I said a word and Little Sweets jumped to the letter that word started with.

Memory Match
Little Sweets played Winnie the Pooh Memory with me.  She had fun matching the cards.

Magnets
I made a magnet stick by placing a magnetic strip on a Popsicle stick.  Little sweets used the the stick to identify magnetic objects.  She had fun going around the house to find different magnetic objects.

Little sweets read several books with me this week.  She really likes the book  Happy Birthday, Moon by Frank Asch.

Measurement
We used paperclips to measure different objects.  Little Sweets told me how many paper clips long each object was.

Letter "M" Sound
Little Sweets identified pictures of objects that started with the letter "m".

Our Plant Project
Little Sweets has shown an interest in flowers and plants so I thought it would be fun to learn more about plants.  This week we talked about what plants need to live.  Then we bought some flowers and Little Sweets helped me plant them and water them.  She hasn't picked a flower from our yard since we started the project.  She was feeling sad every time the flower she picked died.  I think she is beginning to understand why they were dying.

Invented Spelling
I thought this was so cute.  Little Sweets and daddy were working on spelling words.  Daddy helped her spell the word dad.  She decided she wanted it to say daddy so she added the "t" to the end of the word.  It makes sense.  I'm excited she has already started using invented spelling.

Tot School letter "L"

 Tot School- Letter "L"
33 months

We did a lot of fun activities this week for the letter "L."

Sorting with Chopsticks
Little Sweets used the training chopsticks that we got at the Chinese restaurant to pick up pom-poms and place them in cups according to their color.  We put the cups in the shape of an "l."  This was a great fine motor activity for Little Sweets.

Bingo Stamp "L"
Little Sweets used bingo stamps to make the letter "l."  Then she used her training chopsticks to pick up pom-poms and placed them on the dots.

"L" is for Ladybug
I drew a ladybug and Little Sweets used the bingo stamper to add spots.  Then she counted the spots.  She found the number on our calendar and I helped her write the number.

"L" Sound
Little Sweets found the letter "L" and placed it in the word whammer.  She listened to the sound the "L" makes.  I picked the word whammer up at a local consignment sale.

Cork board "L"
I placed a piece of paper on a cork board and poked holes in the board and paper in the shape of an "L."   Then I used a black marker to mark the holes.  Little Sweets placed thumbtacks in the holes.  Then she put a bead on each thumbtack.  This was a super cheap easy activity.  I found the cork board and lacing beads at the dollar tree.

I also got the Letter Factory Game at the consignment sale.  It is super fun and teaches counting, colors, letter identification, and letter sounds.  Little Sweets loves it.  I also picked up the Letter Factory video that goes with it from the library.  (You don't need the video to play the game.)

Letter Bridge
Little Sweets used her letter blocks to make a bridge for Cinderella.  She said the names of the letters as Cinderella jumped on each block.

 Letter Stamps

Little Sweets put letter stamps on her letter "L."

Letter Sound Picture Match
I got this idea from Confessions of  a Homeschooler.  Little Sweets picked the picture that started with the letter "l" and placed a clothespin on the picture.  I was impressed at how much she knew.  She even told me what letters the other pictures started with.  We also read the book My "L" Sound Box to go along with the activity.

L is for Lollipop

Little Sweets sorted a bag of lollipops by color.  She counted the lollipops then I put the numbers on a graph.  Little Sweets used the graph to tell me how many of each color lollipops there were.  Then she showed me which had the most lollipops.  I had to show which had the least number of lollipops.  I think she did great.  We've only done graphs together a few times.

Character Trait: Loving Others

We talked about loving others and how to show love.  We read a story from Little Sweets Bible. Little Sweets colored a heart and we wrote different ways we could love others.
