Tot Tuesday- Water Sensory Activity

We've had a major heat wave.  It was 85 degrees this week.  I put Little Peanut in her bathing suit and let her play with the water table outside.  She loved it.  Of course she also really enjoyed picking up  mulch off the ground and putting it in the water too.  : )

Homemade Sidewalk Paint

I saw an awesome post on Happy Hooligans today about making homemade sidewalk paint and I had to try it.  It was easy to make. You mix cornstarch, water, and food coloring together.  It took some time to figure out the right consistency, but it added to the learning process.  Little Sweets sat mixing colors and painting for a long time.  I wish I had taken a picture of the sidewalk when she was finished.  This is an activity we will be doing over and over again.

Yes, my daughter is in a bathing suit and it's March!!  It was 85 degrees here today!

I also enjoyed painting and thought it would be fun to paint some words onto the sidewalk.  Little Sweets read the words to me after I painted them.  This is a great literacy activity.

Bubble Literacy and Fine Motor Activity

This was a super fun activity for Little Sweets.  I put soapy water into a tub.  Then we put colored water into a spray bottle.  Little Sweets sprayed the water into the tube and colored the bubbles and the water. (Using the spray bottle helps with fine motor skills.)  Then I placed objects in the water and Little Sweets found them.  We started with toys then I started putting letters in the water.  I put letters that would make words in the "at" family.  Little Sweets pulled out the letter, told me what is was, put it front of the letters "at", and then read me the word.  She really enjoyed this activity.

Here is where I like to link up.

Getting in His Word Wednesday- Fruit of the Spirit Gentleness

This past week we worked on the concept of gentleness.  This topic has come up many times since Little Peanut was born and Little Sweets demonstrated that she had some grasp of the concept when  I asked her what gentleness was and she softly touched her own head.  I also explained that we can also be gentle in our voice.  I gave examples of what a gentle voice sounds like and what it does not.  We practiced and Little Sweets looked at me and said, " okay mommy when little peanut bites me I will say please don't bite me that hurts instead of yelling in her face, "  she came up with it on her own.  Of course I need to teach Little Peanut that biting is unkind and that she should not be doing that, but that is for another post.

Proverbs 15:1    A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.

I found some good defenitions about gentleness at the focus on the family website and I really enjoyed them.   http://www.thrivingfamily.com/Family/Faith/2011/strength-of-gentleness.aspx

  • Gentleness is a strong hand with a soft touch.

  • A gentle person speaks the truth in a way others can receive.

  • True followers of Christ are distinguished by gentleness.

Tot Tuesday - Playing with Bubbles

    Sensory Activity- Playing with Bubbles

My girls love washing their hands and playing in the bubbles so I thought it would be fun to turn playing with bubbles into a sensory activity.  I put dish soap in a container dumped out the water and let Little Peanut play with the bubbles left in the container.  I could have left the water in the container , but I knew she would just have dumped it on the floor within seconds.  I think she had more fun with just the bubbles anyways.

Getting in HIs Word Wednesday- Fruit of the Spirit Faithfulness

Throughout the week we talked about how faithfulness means that you will be true to your word and keep your promises. We read the story of Abraham and talked about how God was faithful to his promise to Abraham and that even though Sarah was older she was able to have a baby like God promised.  Little Sweets then colored a picture of Abraham, Sarah, and Issac.  We continued to talk about how God is faithful to his promises throughout the week.  We also talked about how we should also be faithful.
