Sight Word Christmas Tree Review Game

Christmas Tree Sight Words Review

This is a free activity you can use with your child.  You can download it here.
I made this activity as a review for Little Sweets.  She uses a bingo dot marker to fill in the ornaments as I read the sight word.  (Your child can also just color the ornaments with crayons.)

This is a sample of what the tree looks like.  The download has 2 more trees.  Graphics for this activity came from graphicsfactory.com

Christmas Advent Chain and Bible Study

Names of Jesus Advent Chain with Activities

This is a great way to count down the days to Christmas and learn about the different names of Jesus.

My daughter has been asking how many days until Christmas so I decided we needed a way for her to count down the days.  Growing up we always made a chain.  I wanted to do the same thing with my girls, but was hoping to make it a little more meaningful.  I came across this blog post at spell outloud about an advent chain with the names of Jesus and a corresponding Bible study from Easy Fun School. Here is a link to the Bible Study. I thought some of the names and concepts were a little difficult for my 4 year old to understand and decided to make my own advent chain and Bible study.  Some of the activities came from the Easy Fun School Bible study and some I made on my own.  You can download the printable for free.  The link is at the bottom of the page.  Each chain link has a name for Jesus, a Bible verse referencing the name, and the number of days until Christmas.  The Bible study has a corresponding activity to go with each name for Jesus.  If you have older kids I suggest checking out the Easy Fun School Bible Study.  It is a great study.

Here is an example of the chain links included in the download.

Our Apple Unit
20 months
&
4 1/2 years

Sorting by Color
Little Peanut enjoyed sorting the paper apples by color.

Apple Math Puzzle
Little Sweets put this apple puzzle together.  I got the puzzle from here.  I added 0's to the numbers so she could practice counting by 10's instead of 1's.

Measurement
We used our teddy bear counters to measure how much a piece of apple weighed.

We used unifix cubes to measure the height of the apple.

Little sweets recorded the answers.

Little Sweets showed me where the flower the apple grew out of was on the apple.

Little Peanut colored apples.

Little sweets colored op words red and it words green

Little Sweets labeled the plant parts.  I got this from here.

Tot Tuesday Garden Sensory Bin

Garden Sensory Bin

Little Peanut loved playing in this sensory bin.  These are the items I put in the bin; coffee grounds (as dirt), silk flowers, raisins (as seeds), shovel, rake, paper flowers her sister made, and cups.  I originally made the bin for Little Sweets, but Little Peanut seemed very interested in it so I let her play in it.  It was a great activity for her while I cooked dinner.

Tot Tuesday- Coloring

Tot Tuesday

Little Peanut loves to draw.  She loves markers and crayons and recently started drawing with chalk.  Little Sweets didn’t get into drawing/coloring until she was about 3 years old so I was surprised when Little Peanut started showing interest in it. I guess it helps that she sees her big sister doing it.  If your little one likes to scribble take them outside and give them some chalk, at least you don't have to worry about where they might end up coloring.

Plant Unit Part 1

Preschool Plant Unit

Little Sweet has really showed an interest in plants.  She was so excited to see the flowers blooming and the leaves on the trees.  I thought it would be fun to do a unit on plants.  My mom also thought we needed to start a garden so she bought Little Sweets these great crayola plant starter kits.

Little Sweets is planting the tomato seeds in the soil.

She is watering the seeds.

A few weeks later our tomato plants looked like this.  This is amazing because I do not have a green thumb and all ten plants look like this.

Little Sweets used unifix cubes to measure how tall this plant is.

She is helping daddy build a bed for tomato plants.  Hopefully, I will show the planted tomato plants in the bed in another post.   We just haven't planted them in it yet.

I wrote a song about plants on our white board and Little Sweets circled and read the high frequency words.  I wish I took a picture of the enitre board after she was done, but I only have a picture of what she circled in the first sentence.  I also drew pictures to go with the words she didn't know and she did a great job singing the song.

Here is one of Little Sweets journal entries.  I am encouraging her to use invented spelling.

This was an interactive writing activity.  Little Sweets dictated a sentence about plants.  I wrote the words she didn't know and she wrote the words she knew.  I also encouraged her to draw a picture that matched the words.  She labeled the rain with my help.  I encouraged her to write the sounds she heard.  She wrote "ran."   I helped her out by adding the i and explaining that it changes the sound of the letter "a."

We took a field trip to the Botanical Gardens.

We also took a field trip to the strawberry patch.

I link up to these great parties.
